Script Development- why is it important?
Have you ever wondered if your play or screen play will actually work? Is it a fear of yours that once it is read out loud it will be clunky and have no flow?
Well now you can find out!
Hearing your play out loud and receiving constructive feedback will ultimately give you great confidence in your work before you go into production. After all - we want the very best from our work- especially when we have poured our heart and soul into it!
Our readings are a study of the dramatic composition, flow of text, charecterisation and the representation of the main elements of drama in your play/ screenplay.
It may also be defined, more broadly, as shaping a story into a form that may be acted / performed. The workshop is a tool to scrutinize narrative strategies, genre, ideological approach, representation of gender roles etc. of your narrative-performative work.
The workshop is a comprehensive exploration of the context in which the play/ screenplay resides. We can look at the physical, social, political, and economic milieus in which the action takes place, the psychological underpinnings of the characters, the various metaphorical expressions in the play / screenplay of thematic concerns; as well as on the technical consideration of the play as a piece of writing: structure, rhythm, flow, even individual word choices.
These actions can assist you in fulfilling the final stages of your story so you can enter into production with the utmost of confidence.
